WAVERTREE PRINCESS

(2005 gr. f. by Invincible Spirit ex Blushing Queen)

Wavertree Princess is the second foal of the National Stud's Never Say Die club mare Blushing Queen - from the family of top class USA juvenile WILKO and Japanese Champion older horse TAIKI SHUTTLE - by INVINCIBLE SPIRIT - the top stallion in 2006 for 2 year olds.

Already weaned when the National Stud bought her dam, Princess was consigned to the 2006 Tattersalls October yearling sales at Newmarket by Herringswell Manor Stud and she was purchased by Wavertree Racing for 20,000 guineas.

With such a competitive market we were delighted to purchase this lovely filly for such a reasonable price. She has a very sweet nature, a nice kind eye, huge ears, plenty of bone and good airways.

Blushing Queen is a eight year old Irish bred grey mare who was purchased by the Never Say Die Club in 2005 for 38,000 gns. She is by DESERT KING, the sire of the legendary Australian mare, triple Gr.1 Melbourne Cup-winning MAKYBE DIVA, out of the Tap on Wood mare PHAZANIA who is from the family of Oaks winner BLUE WIND. She is also a half-sister to the dam of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner and 2nd  placed in the Dubai World Cup in 2006 WILKO, a winner of almost £1.4 million in prizemoney in just 2 years.

Blushing Queen has had two foals by the Irish National Stud's Invincible Spirit, the first of which has been named Iron Ruler and is a three year old in training with Kevin Ryan. She also has a colt yearling by HIGH CHAPARRAL, the 2002 Derby and dual Breeders' Cup Turf victor and winner of almost £3.5 million in prizemoney who stands at Coolmore, his 2005 fee was €30,000. She is currently carrying a filly by DOYEN, whose victories included the Gr.1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and the Gr.2 Hardwicke Stakes, both at Ascot in 2004.

INVINCIBLE SPIRIT (b. 1997 by GREEN DESERT - RAFHA) - INVINCIBLE SPIRIT is currently the leading sire of 2 year olds in Europe in 2006 in order of prize money. He tops the first crop table with an incredible 47% of winners to runners with a ratio of 27 - 57 including 7 individual Stakes performers and total prizemoney of £634,992. NOVERRE is in second place with 43% (17 winners to 40 runners - £338,500) and KYLLACHY is in third place with 32% (17 winners to 53 runners £237,240).

INVINCIBLE SPIRIT's race record is as follows: won 7 races and £247,786 including Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup, Haydock Park, Gr.1, Duke of York Stakes, York, Gr.3, Boland Stakes, Curragh, Gr.3, Champagne Stakes, Newbury, L., Ripon Champion 2yo Trophy, Ripon, L., placed 5 times including 2nd Prix de Meautry Royal Barriere, Deauville, Gr.3, 4th Leicestershire Stakes, Newmarket, Gr.3, Abernant Stakes, Newmarket, L., Dubai Duty Free Cup, Newbury, L., from 17 starts.

In addition to being the top sire of juveniles in the northern hemisphere, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT has a first crop of 92 youngsters in the southern hemisphere and he has just got off the mark with his first runner namely Conquering Spirit who straightaway went to 19th on the prizemoney list in Australia.

After going to Whitwell Bloodstock in Norfolk for her pre-training she has now gone into training with Nick Littmoden at Southgate Stables, Hamilton Road, Newmarket. She has settled in really well at Nick’s, he is very happy with her and thinks a lot of her describing her as having a physique and presence more like a colt than a filly. She has taken all in her stride, done everything asked of her and has shown a very positive attitude throughout.

Early entries have been made for her in the £250,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes over 6f at Newmarket, the even more valuable Watership Down Stud Sales Stakes over 6½l at Ascot in September and the Irish Breeders Foal Levy Stakes at the Curragh in Ireland again over 6½l.

Shares cost £1,000 each and with the interest shown to date it is hoped to be able to run the partnership 'all in' as we have done previously for 2 years. However if we don't get the numbers required for this and the partnership is more 'exclusive' then it will run as a one year project initially.
