The latest on Princess
Ted Durcan reported that he was "absolutely over the moon" with how Wavertree Princess handled her long awaited return to the racetrack. He said that it was "a lovely run .... that she ran a real solid race .... settled really well and showed a great attitude". He added that she "ran home well and just got a little leg weary in the last 100 yards and that he left her alone".
He thinks that she might just need another run to get back to optimum fitness and that as long as she remains sound we should have some fun with her going into the Autumn, he added that he "would love to ride her over 6f with cut in the ground".
Although she finished 11th of 13 she was only beaten by 4l and got the following comments in the Racing Post: "An eyecatcher further down the field was Wavertree Princess, who was debuting for Chris Wall after 299 days off. Unlike a few of these, she wasn't blocked in her run but it was noticeable she was not given a hard ride at all and it will be a surprise if she can't do much better".
Chris was also very pleased with her performance and says that she seems to have taken the race well and has eaten up. He too felt that she got a little tired towards the end of the race and that she wasn't helped by being bumped by another horse in the run-in that seemed to knock the stuffing out of her.
He now expects Princess to step up and after giving her one more gallop he will look for another race for her in the next couple of weeks if all goes well. His target would be a stiff 5f or an easier 6f.
Hopefully her owners will now be rewarded for their patience over the last year and our thanks go to all involved for the care they have shown during her rehabilitation especially her vet Richard Payne, Angus & Sam Hodge at Hall Farm and Chris and his staff.
